FAQ’s

Arrow

If you are new to the Belfry, we’re a pretty casual spot. Here’s what we get asked most often. Don’t see what you’re after, just drop us a line at boxoffice(at)belfry.bc.ca

Tickets

How do I get tickets?
Arrow

Visit us in person, call our Box Office at 250-385-6815, or buy your tickets online. Either way, we will get you the best seats possible – our theatres are small, and no seat is farther than 8 meters (25 feet) from the stage. Our service fees are the same, whichever way you buy.

The Belfry accepts Visa*, Mastercard*, and American Express for online, telephone, or in-person purchases, as well as Interac, cheques (please make payable to the Belfry Theatre), and cash when booking in person.

*Visa-Debit and Mastercard-Debit can only be accepted in person.

What are the Box Office hours?
Arrow

During performance weeks:
Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm
and 90 minutes prior to each performance (Tuesday – Sunday) for ticket sales & pick-ups for that performance only

Non-performance weeks:
Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm

Summer hours – July and August:
Monday to Thursday, 10 am to 4 pm

What if I buy tickets but can’t go?
Arrow

Tickets are non-refundable but may be exchanged for another performance (within that production and subject to availability) providing you notify the box office before the start of the performance for which they were issued. Ticket exchanges are presently being offered at no additional charge.

Belfry subscribers also have the option to exchange tickets between Mainstage Series productions within their subscription season.

At the show

What should I wear?
Arrow

We’re casual. You can dress up if you wish, but like the song says, we love you just the way you are.

What are previews?
Arrow

Tuesday and Wednesday Previews are the customary performance period at the very start of a show’s run before the critics have been invited to see it. We continue to make refinements to shows in our previews, though what you see on the stage during that period will not be markedly different from what the critics see.

When should I arrive?
Arrow

Doors into the lobby typically open 90 minutes before the “curtain” (while we don’t have a curtain –“curtain” is theatre jargon for “start of the show”), and doors for seating should be open 30 minutes before the curtain. We recommend planning to arrive at least 20 minutes before curtain, but you’re welcome to arrive at any time within those 90 minutes.

If you’re driving to the theatre and need to find parking, it’s best to come early.

Can I get food or drink at the theatre?
Arrow

Yes! Concession opens 1 hour before curtain. Snacks and drinks purchased at the concession may be taken into the theatre, but please do not bring any food or drink from home (except water bottles). We also have a public water fountain and a self-serve water station at the concession counter.

What if I’m not feeling well?
Arrow

Please stay home! We’ll be happy to exchange your tickets for a later performance, provided that you let the box office know before curtain. Sorry, tickets cannot be exchanged retroactively.

Arriving at the theatre is considered a declaration of good health and an acknowledgment of the risks associated with attending an indoor public event. Anyone who is observed excessively coughing or sneezing before or during the performance may be asked to leave.

After the show–now what?
Arrow

Have a drink or a dessert, of course – then go tell all your friends and encourage them to go out and see more theatre!

Audience advisories / running times
Arrow

The Box Office can advise if there is strong language, mature subject matter, or extreme technical effects (strobe lights, fog) in the show. Please look for signs at the entrances to the theatre. Advisories and running times are available at the Box Office as of the first preview.

Latecomers and re-admission
Arrow

The Director of each production designates moments in the show when the seating of latecomers will cause the least amount of distraction for actors and audience members. Should you leave the theatre, you will have to wait for our House Manager to reseat you during one of these breaks, and you may not be able to return to your original seat.

Latecomers and patrons waiting to be reseated can watch the performance on the monitor in our lobby.

Wheelchair access
Arrow

The Belfry is fully wheelchair accessible, including a wheelchair-accessible washroom. As space within the theatres is limited, we ask you to book wheelchair seating in advance. Please let us know if you have a companion with whom you wish to sit.

Gender inclusive washrooms
Arrow

We have three gender-inclusive washrooms in the building – one is just past the women’s washroom in the lobby and the other two are on our lower level – just past the men’s washrooms.

Children / Babies in arms
Arrow

The Belfry is proud to produce adult contemporary theatre. Most of our productions are not suitable for young audiences, and children under the age of ten (10) will not be admitted. Family-friendly shows and those with differing age restrictions will be indicated on each show page. Sorry, we do not admit babes in arms to any Belfry show.

Perfume and cologne
Arrow

Please refrain from wearing perfume and cologne when you come to the theatre. Some of our patrons are highly allergic to scents.

Recording devices
Arrow

No cameras or recording devices are permitted in the theatre.

Phones
Arrow

When you take your seat in the theatre, please turn your phone off or turn the ringer to silent.

Good to know
Arrow

Our theatres are small and acoustically dynamic. Trust us, if you talk to your neighbour during a show, the actors on stage will hear you.

Social media
Arrow

Please, no pictures or videos in the theatres. Feel free to take pictures or selfies in the lobby and don’t forget to tag us @belfrytheatre #belfrytheatre.
