Giving Tuesday – December 3, 2019

Date posted: November 29, 2019

December 3 is Giving Tuesday and we hope you will mark the occasion with a charitable gift to your favourite theatre

We asked Katherine Farris and Kit Pearson to share what inspires them to generously support the Belfry Theatre with a charitable gift year after year:

“The Belfry has nourished our lives for the past 14 years. In that time, we have enjoyed an astonishing variety of Canadian and international theatre. Terrific acting, beautiful, clever sets, and sensitive direction are all hallmarks of a Belfry production. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike . . . And Slowly Beauty . . . Home is a Beautiful Word . . . The Rez Sisters . . .Gracie . . . Griffin and Sabine . . . The Children – these are just a few of the plays that have left us either too emotionally stunned to speak or so stimulated that we discussed them for days.

But the Belfry isn’t just about one theatre season aimed at a group of subscribers. Its innovative and thoughtful outreach is remarkable. The SPARK Festival offers a dizzying array of provocative plays, workshops, and hootenannies. It is often audacious and sometimes risky theatre, which lights up the city for two weeks in March. Belfry 101 for high school students uses the season’s plays to teach various aspects of theatre – from concept to creation to critique. And the Indigenous Learning Exchange Program demonstrates the Belfry’s commitment to truth and reconciliation in the theatre world.

All of this takes place in the gloriously renovated, comfy, intimate 19th century church that the Belfry calls home. We feel privileged to be able to enjoy such a welcoming, inspiring and enriching theatre.”
