Show Info

“You’re going to love it…an uber-smart script that trapezes between rapier wit and intrigue, intense action and black humour…it has that pop culture bounce to it…there’s no smarter play” CBC Radio

“…intelligently written, masterfully interpreted and exquisitely staged. There is much to recommend…” Janis La Couvee

“I was riveted for every second without fail…This play left me incredibly satisfied, and reaffirmed my opinion that a well-crafted piece of theatre can give me so much more than any film can.” Charlebois Post

“One of the most bracingly intelligent, sizzlingly theatrical American plays in a decade.”  Variety

“…it zooms along with all the hip humor of a writers’ meeting for Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show”.…enormously smart, witty, multilayered, political-personal, centuries-crossing, theater-teasing, Shakespeare-embracing play…” Chicago Sun Times

Palace intrigue and backstage comedy converge to create this entertaining ode to art, politics and the perils of negotiating both! When King James’ factotum Sir Robert Cecil charges William Shakespeare with writing the “true history” of Guy Fawkes and the thwarted Gunpowder Plot, the famous playwright tries to discover where the fiction stops and where the facts may lead – without losing his head in the process!

A co-production with Bard on the Beach, Vancouver.

Running Time: Approximately 2 hours, 45 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission.

Audience Advisories:  This production contains stage haze and brief flashes of strobe lighting.
