Artistic Development

Professional Development Workshops
Each season, during the SPARK Festival, we offer a number of artistically stimulating workshops with leading theatre practitioners from across Canada. These workshops address a range of theatrical disciplines, and are designed to provide the artists in our community with exposure to new ideas and different approaches to the work we do.
Sign up for our e-newsletter and we’ll keep you in the loop.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are frequently offered in conjunction with the University of Victoria’s Theatre Department and the Canadian College of Performing Arts. The Belfry offers apprenticeships in performance, production, design, stage management, and audience services.
Contact the Head of Department at your school to see if you are eligible to tackle an apprenticeship. If you are cleared, please contact the Belfry staff member you would like to work with.
Emerging Artist Enhancement Program
For recent graduates of training institutions in this region, and other young professionals, the Belfry offers a maximum of three opportunities per season to work alongside seasoned veterans on one of the Belfry’s productions.
Past mentors have included: Kevin Fraser, Lighting Designer with over 30 years of productions at the Stratford Festival; Candelario Andrade, award-winning Video Designer, based in Vancouver; and Steven Charles, award-winning Composer, Musical Director and Sound Designer.
Please contact Michael Shamata (ad@belfry.bc.ca) to learn more about the program.
