Our history
The Belfry Theatre is housed in a beautifully restored heritage building that was built in 1891.  Like any heritage home, the building requires ongoing attention to preserve its architectural integrity and to ensure its place as one of Victoria’s most impressive cultural venues.

Our present
We strive to bring you the best contemporary theatre from Canada and around the world.  Over one season, we will employ more than 80 people, including actors, directors, playwrights and designers.  We have a talented behind-the-scenes team of scene builders, props-makers and wardrobe staff.  Our in-house expertise makes the Belfry Theatre a coveted place to work, and we have served as a training ground and resource for many emerging, local young artists.

The Future
The Belfry Theatre offers a number of superb programs geared to engaging new audiences, training high school students, offering apprenticeships, and supporting independent theatre artists and companies.  These programs are generally offered free of charge and are made possible by generous individual, corporate and foundation support.

Accessibility
Too often, our cultural institutions are inaccessible because the ticket prices are simply too high.  At the Belfry Theatre, we work very hard to keep our ticket prices low without jeopardizing our bottom line.  Affordable theatre ensures people from all walks of life have access to the great work we do here.
