You Say “Repudo”, I Say “Repudo”
Belfry to place free digital tickets throughout the city and we need your help to find them.

Victoria, BC…Using a free smart phone application called Repudo, the Belfry Theatre will release digital objects (in this case, free tickets) throughout the city. Repudo is the world’s first platform to handle digital objects in the real world and we believe this is the first time this service has been used in Victoria.

Using Repudo, the Belfry will drop text, audio or video messages at very specific locations throughout the city.

With a smart phone and Repudo (a free application available for Android, Blackberry and iPhones), anyone in the city will be able to claim free tickets provided they get out on the streets and pick up these location-based messages.

Why are we doing this? There are three reasons:

> Smart phones are becoming ubiquitous, and it’s important for any business (or not-for-profit like the Belfry) to experiment with new technologies – to learn what works and what doesn’t;

> We are always looking for new ways in which we can engage Victorians (the free ticket offer will be the first step in this engagement);

> Finally, we produce contemporary theatre, work that can reflect the times we live in and the city in which we live. Repudo objects can be physically dropped within the city, reminding audiences that what they see on stage is very much a part of the fabric of their own lives.

We will tie our first set of Repudo objects to our current production of “on the edge”, Michele Riml’s new play about the struggles of three modern women – a fashion addict, a police officer and a homemaker learning yoga. As the practice of yoga continues to bloom in Victoria, we will place the first set of Repudo objects at random yoga studios throughout the city. “on the edge” runs until February 26.

We are looking for twelve people with smart phones to test the system and find the objects. To sign up for this test we ask you to drop us a line to pr@belfry.bc.ca or send us a direct message via Twitter @BelfryTheatre.
