The Mayors are spelling, and rock stars and writers too.

For the final week (May 25 – 30) of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee we are inviting local Mayors, rock musicians and writers to come out and try their hand at spelling during the bee portion of the show.
Over the next week Mayor Christopher Causton (Oak Bay), Mayor Dean Fortin (Victoria) and Mayor Frank Leonard (Saanich) will be celebrity guest spellers, joining the actors on stage for the first half of the show. We are also expecting the Acting Mayor from Esquimalt.
We’ll squelch any rumours right now – the word "amalgamation" will not be used during the show. Members of the local band Jets Overhead and Monday Magazine Editor John Threlfall will also be participating.
The premise of the show is simple. Six precocious and quirky children are competing in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Overseen by former champ and returning moderator Rona Lisa Peretti and Vice Principal Douglas Panch (returning after a long absence on account of “the incident”), these neurotic children must face their fears and deliver the goods. Along the way these youngsters learn that winning isn’t everything, and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.
Each evening, prior to the performance, four audience members are invited to compete in the spelling bee alongside our six young contestants. How well they spell depends entirely on them.
Tickets are available for most performances next week and can be reserved by calling 250-385-6815. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee must close on Sunday May 30.
