Hands-on Photography Workshop with David Cooper

David Cooper is teaching a hands-on dance photography and lighting workshop in his Vancouver studio.
Working over two days with both contemporary and ballet dancers, you will capture dynamic movement and learn how to use short duration strobes for freezing motion.
David will provide:
• Tethered shooting with a medium format Hasselblad.
• See your results instantly on a large monitor.
• Shoot in a professional studio with a sprung dance floor and high speed strobes at 1/2000sec.
• Experiment with various lighting set-ups
• Use a professional effects fan to add motion
• Learn to direct professional dancers and communicate precise instructions to master capturing jumps.
• Files are 110mbs each for maximum quality
• Classroom discussion of various inspirational dance photographers to inspire the day.
• 4 professional dancers per day to experiment with.
• This weekend class will be small and intimate.
What to bring
You will be using a medium format camera but bring your 35mm to practice with.
Food
Healthy lunches and snacks will be provided both days.
David Cooper has been shooting the performing arts for 30 years. He has shot for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, Ballet BC, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and the Pacific Northwest Ballet. He shoots regularly at the Shaw Festival Theatre, The Oregon Shakespeare Festival and many of the Vancouver theatre companies. He has created a series of award winning brochure images the for the Yale Repertory Theatre and has been featured in Applied Arts, Communication Arts and the Toronto Star. He was recently inducted into the BC Hall of Fame for his contributions to the Arts.
