Indigenous Cultural Advisor
The Belfry is seeking an individual to work with us as a Cultural Advisor.
The advisor will have the flexibility to determine how they wish to engage and work within the Belfry to help us build a more complete understanding of an Indigenous world view and assist the Belfry in becoming a more welcoming facility and organization toward our Indigenous territorial hosts.
The key functions of the position are:
• to provide basic and on-going cultural competency training for the Belfry’s staff and Board,
• assisting us to ensure a supportive, safe and valuable space for participants of the Belfry’s Indigenous Learning Exchange program
• working with staff, to strengthen relationships and exchanges with our local Indigenous Nations.
Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants who have practical knowledge of the protocols of one or more of the local first nations communities, however applicants from any first nation who are willing to share their protocols and gain knowledge of the protocols of the South Vancouver Island First Nations are also encouraged to apply.
The position is anticipated to be a permanent part time position (the equivalent of approximately 18-20 hrs per week per year) with flexibility on work schedule to meet the needs of the selected candidate.
