Belfry Green

We are striving to do our part for the environment. Here’s how:

Audience

> All of our paper products (coffee and tea cups, paper towels) are composted.

> All plastic wine and beer glasses are recycled.

> All of our programmes and newsletter are reused and recycled.

> We do not serve bottled water. We firmly believe that water should be free.

Production

> All of our set materials (wood and steel) are reused until it’s not longer feasible and are then recycled (a two by four board is used until it’s less than 12 inches in length).

> Costumes are kept in storage for reuse or donated to a local thrift shop.

> We use water based paints to colour our sets. Occasionally, to adhere to fire regulations, we must use oil based paints but we strive to use as little as possible.

Building

> We have commissioned the Engineering Department at the University of Victoria to evaluate our energy usage and building systems. Their recommendations will form the foundation of our next capital campaign to renovate and upgrade the building.

We are far from all of the changes we would like to make but we will continue to adapt as finances and technologies evolve.
